New Adventures in Coding

I have taken it upon myself to start practising coding again after a long break from it. I assume it’s because I am under the mistaken impression that I have a huge amount of free time on my hands that I’ve decided to start doing this. One of the things I’m most proud of doing is returning to university and getting a second Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. This is what I had originally want to go to university to do but circumstances played out otherwise. It’s opened a lot of doors for me but the type of work I now do doesn’t involve very much coding at all. At best I’m working on a sort of UML modeling or determining business requirements. I’ve realized that I miss coding up solutions to problems and the joy I used to get out of building something clever.

To this end, I’ve decided to refamiliarize myself with the Python programming language. If you ask any programmer which language is the one he or she prefers for personal project, you will get a different answer from each one. I know there are plenty of other languages to fool around with and all of them would adequately exercise that chunk of grey matter in my head that wants to code. I have a soft spot for Python because I learned it as part of my introductory Unix programming course. It had a clear syntax and seemed easy to code in to me (much easier than C or Java at the time anyway…).

It is possible that I’m feeling a bit old these days and I want to recapture something exciting from my time as a student again. In any case, since this blog is a place for me to flesh out “lost thoughts” I plan to post little coding projects I worked on along with the output you should get from them.

I think this is going to be a lot of fun!
